Homophobic crime research

You might remember that last summer QueerOxford encouraged you to take part in some research into homophobic crime in Oxford. The research was run by Somjen Frazer and HALT and was partly designed to inform some police training and partly contributed to some on-going academic research.

The report based on the research is being launched today and the findings have resulted in quite a publicity-fest. Fans of Anne Diamond may have heard some interviews this morning and more will follow on the BBC South lunchtime news. Online coverage can be found here on the BBC news site and the Oxford Mail site.

The final version of the official report can be downloaded as a PDF from here.

Cowley Rd Carnival - pictures

The THT Safe Life on Earth condom

Is it me, or does this look a bit rude?

I wasn't joking about the kangaroo

Cowley Rd Carnival

I remember when this event consisted of a dozen hippies and a veggie-burger barbeque but Sunday a parade stretched the length of the Cowley Road and was followed by tens of thousands of people watching theatre, music and giant kangaroos. Other activities included making your own bag of slime, having your face painted, or just sitting, drinking and eating. Terrence Higgins Trust were in the parade with a giant condom, just behind the cheerleaders and in front of the deafening band of drummers from one of the local schools. I've heard of marching to a different beat but there really were too many different beats to choose from. It was a fabulous day out, and not to be missed next year.

THT Film Night - 26 May

From Terrence Higgins Trust:
As on the last Thursday of each month, the Gay Men's Team Oxon is offering a social meeting where we show a film and provide some snacks and drinks for free.

Welcomed are Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgender, people questioning their sexuality and friends to meet outside the local scene in a welcoming environment where everyone is treated equally to socialise.

The Condom Stuffing is happening at 5.30 pm before the film.

It will become a bit more exotic this time as we are planning to show
the sweet and moving Spanish film "Bear Cub" which deals with the issues
and difficulties of bringing up a child as a gay parent. In addition to
that we will have some Spanish food and wine.

Showing: Bear Cub
When: 7.30 p.m. Thursday 26th May 2005
Where: THT Office in 43 Pembroke Street in Oxford

If you wish to attend this chilled social opportunity, then please try to confirm your attendance so that we can cater appropriately.
